The 2014 SXSW Interactive festival in Austin, Texas was a parade of digital devices: not only the traditional smartphone / tablet / desktop formats so familiar to modern digital professionals, but wearable sensors, smart watches, smart fabric, intelligent appliances and virtual-reality headsets. SXSW attendees may be more technology-forward than a typical B2B procurement specialist, but there’s a lesson in the proliferation of platforms that all companies need to address: customers aren’t funneled into your preferred transaction screen anymore; they expect you to bring those transactions tothem, and from now on they’re going to be on many, many different screens.
